Outbox Boxing Fitness

From the corner team of World Champion boxer David Haye, Adam Booth has put togethter the OutBox training programme. The closest you can get to boxing without being hit.

The guy who beat the Russian giant

As I stood in a room full of Personal Trainers with my hands freshly wrapped in protective bandages, I was as keen as anyone to learn the “Outbox” techniques (boxing fitness training using pads and gloves) and to meet the WBA World Heavyweight Champion – the guy who beat the Russian giant!

“Outbox” by David “The Hayemaker” Haye and Adam Booth

The information that Outbox is devised by David “The Hayemaker” Haye and his Coach Adam Booth did not mean that much to me when I booked my course a few months ago but it’s a long time since I was taught the most basic rules of milling and then boxing, by a young PTI called Gordon Siddel: “keep your hands up and keep punching”. Those rules have served me and successive generations of Inter Battery boxers well over the years to follow but it really was time to get updated.

Getting older is no excuse – but sometimes reality hits as hard as punches

Meeting other talented and well motivated fitness professionals is always inspiring and the knowledge passed on by our coaches for the weekend, David Coldwell and David Nicolosi was informative, relevant and good fun and I shall certainly pass on these boxing fitness skills for my Personal Training in Milton Keynes and Rocky Too courses

But boy, did I get a reminder that I am no longer a teenager! Two solid days of punching and holding pads  is really demanding and having made good progress on the first day, I found myself unable to cope with the sheer physicality of the work we were doing. So by the time we were assessed I was mentally and physically exhausted and not up to the task. This was a good lesson in humility and a reminder of how my clients must sometime feel and as I write this 4 days after the event, my body is still stiff and sore!

Thanks Dave Nicolosi and Dave Coldwell

When I go for re-assessment; I’ll make sure I am up to it!
